Thick, golden pancakes with a molten Nutella heart — these stuffed pancakes turn an ordinary morning into a celebration. The method is simple: a spoonful of batter, a dollop of Nutella, another spoonful of batter, then a covered skillet does the rest. Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 210 g (3/4 cup + 2 tbsp) milk
- 25 g (1.75 tbsp) vegetable oil
- 200 g (1.6 cups) flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- Nutella for the filling
Instructions
- Whisk the egg with the sugar and salt. Pour in the milk and oil and stir well.
- Add the flour and baking powder and whisk until smooth.
- Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Spoon a tablespoon of batter onto it, place a dollop of Nutella in the center, then cover the Nutella with a teaspoon of batter.
- Cover with a lid and cook 2–3 minutes until golden on the bottom. Flip and cook under the lid for a couple more minutes.
Tips
- Keep the Nutella dollop in the center with a border of batter around it so the filling stays sealed.
- Cook with the lid on — the trapped steam cooks the thick pancakes through without burning the bottoms.
- Medium heat is key; too hot and the outsides brown before the centers set. New to from-scratch pancakes? Allrecipes has a wonderful collection of breakfast basics to explore — and our Japanese Souffle Pancakes are another weekend-morning showstopper.
