Ingredients
- 300 g (10.5 oz) block cottage cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 7 g butter
- For the sweet sauce: 1 tbsp sour cream + 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Mix the cottage cheese with the egg until smooth (a fork works fine). Add the sugar, flour, vanilla sugar and salt; stir into a thick dough.
- Roll small balls, dust with flour and flatten slightly with a fork. Boil in lightly salted water until they float, then one minute more.
- Serve with melted butter and the sweet sour-cream sauce (just stir sour cream with sugar).
Tips
- Do not overwork the dough — a soft, slightly sticky dough makes the tenderest dumplings.
- Boil in batches so the dumplings have room to float freely, and toss with butter right away so they do not stick. More dumpling inspiration is at Allrecipes.
- For kids, serve the sauce on the side for dipping.
