Ingredients

  • Mashed potatoes from 5-6 potatoes
  • 400 g (14 oz) chicken fillet, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 100 ml (1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) cream
  • 50 g (1.7 oz) cheese, grated
  • Salt and spices to taste
  • 1 tbsp flour (to keep the cream from curdling)

Instructions

  1. Saute the chicken with the onion, pour in the cream, and heat through. Stir in a spoonful of flour so the cream doesn’t curdle.
  2. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly in a baking dish, top with the creamy chicken.
  3. Sprinkle with grated cheese and bake at 180C (350F) for 15-20 minutes. Pair it with our Stuffed Chicken Breast with Mushrooms for a dinner-party spread, or explore Serious Eats for comfort-food technique tips.

Tips

  • Warm the cream slightly before adding so it blends smoothly into the sauce.
  • Day-old mashed potatoes work perfectly here — even better than fresh.
  • Broil for the last 2 minutes for an extra golden crust. Find more cozy bakes on Allrecipes.
