Ingredients
- 500 g (1.1 lb) ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 200 g (2 cups) grated cheese
- Mashed potatoes (about 4-5 potatoes, butter, and a splash of milk)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes in salted water. Meanwhile, sauté the onion, carrot, and bell pepper, then add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until done (add a splash of water if needed).
- Stir in the tomato paste, salt, and pepper; simmer 5 more minutes. Mash the potatoes with butter, milk, and half the grated cheese.
- Layer the meat in a baking dish, spread the mash on top, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake 10 minutes until golden.
Tips
- Season the mash well and make it soft and spreadable, so it layers smoothly over the meat.
- Let the pie rest for a few minutes after baking, so it slices neatly.
