Ingredients
For the batter
- 480 ml kefir, lukewarm
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1-2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 160 g butter, melted
- 360 g flour
For the filling
- 500 g cabbage, shredded
- 2 eggs, hard-boiled and chopped
- 50 g green onions, chopped
- Fresh dill to taste
- Salt, pepper, and spices
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Add the eggs, sugar, salt, and baking soda to the warm kefir; rest 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, shred the cabbage and scrunch it with your hands. Mix with the chopped eggs, salt, pepper, green onions, and dill.
- Once the kefir mixture has rested, stir in the melted butter and sifted flour until smooth.
- Grease a pan, pour in half the batter, spread the filling, and cover with the remaining batter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40-50 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.
Tips
- Scrunching the cabbage by hand softens it and helps the filling pack neatly into the pie.
- Let the kefir mixture rest the full 10 minutes so the baking soda activates and the batter turns light.
