This turkey and cabbage stew is the kind of one-pot comfort food that makes a cold evening feel warm and easy. Tender meat, soft cabbage, potatoes, and carrots simmer together in a rich tomato sauce until everything is meltingly soft. If you love hearty one-pot dinners, you will also enjoy our Hearty Chicken and Vegetable Stew and our Classic Spaghetti Bolognese — both are weeknight favorites that feed a crowd with very little fuss.

Ingredients
- 800 g meat (pork, beef, or turkey), cubed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, grated
- 5 potatoes, cubed
- 1/2 small head cabbage (about 1 kg), shredded
- 70 g tomato paste
- 200 ml water
- Salt, black pepper, sweet paprika, dried garlic
Instructions
- Brown the meat cubes until golden. Add the onion and fry a couple more minutes.
- Add the carrots, tomato paste, and spices; fry 5 minutes.
- Add the potatoes, stir, pour in the water, and pile the shredded cabbage on top.
- Simmer on low for 30 minutes.
- Stir, adjust salt, and simmer 20 more minutes until the cabbage is soft.
- Serve sprinkled with fresh herbs.
Tips
- Brown the meat in a single layer and let it get properly golden — those browned edges are where most of the flavor comes from, so do not crowd the pan.
- Pile the shredded cabbage on top and let it steam down for a few minutes before stirring; it shrinks to about half its volume as it cooks.
- This stew tastes even better the next day and freezes well for up to 3 months. For safe cooling and storage times, follow the USDA food safety guidance.
