This braised pork with potatoes and peas is pure comfort food: tender meat, soft potatoes and sweet peas simmered together in a savoury tomato sauce. Everything cooks in one pot, and the flavours only get better as it rests. It is a satisfying weeknight dinner that needs little more than crusty bread on the side. If you love slow-cooked pork, our Slow-Braised Pork with Potatoes is another must-try.

Ingredients
- 500 g pork, cubed
- 4-5 potatoes, cubed
- 3-4 tbsp flour
- 1 carrot, diced
- 100 g green peas
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2-3 tbsp tomato paste
- 30-40 g butter
- Sunflower oil
- Dried garlic
- Salt
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Dredge the pork cubes in salted flour.
- Melt the butter with a little oil and brown the meat 2-3 minutes per side until golden.
- Add the chopped onion and carrot, spices, and bay leaf. Simmer covered about 10 minutes.
- Pour in a glass of water, add the potatoes, peas, and tomato paste.
- Braise on medium heat 45-50 minutes until everything is tender.
Tips
- Brown the pork well — that golden crust is where most of the flavour comes from.
- Keep the heat at a gentle simmer so the meat stays tender and the potatoes hold their shape. For guidance on safe pork cooking temperatures, see the USDA guidelines.
- Add the peas near the end if you prefer them bright and firm. For a quicker version, try our 30-Minute Pork and Potato Skillet.
