This hot crispy tuna melt sandwich takes the classic to a whole new level. Bread dipped in beaten egg fries up golden and crisp in the skillet, while tuna and melty suluguni cheese turn gooey inside — a fast, satisfying meal for lunch or a light dinner, and a great companion to our hot omelet sandwich.

Ingredients
- 50 g (1.75 oz) canned tuna in water, drained
- 25 g (0.9 oz) suluguni or mozzarella cheese
- 2 lettuce leaves
- 2 slices of bread
- 1 egg
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Crack the egg into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and beat lightly with a fork. Dip both slices of bread into the beaten egg, then place the first slice on a hot skillet.
- Layer the lettuce leaves, tuna, and cheese on top of the bread. Cover with the second slice, reduce the heat, and put a lid on the skillet.
- Cook for about 2 minutes per side until golden. For an extra-crisp crust, finish the sandwich in the oven instead.
Tips
- Keep the heat medium-low once the sandwich is assembled so the cheese melts before the bread over-browns.
- Press the sandwich gently with a spatula for maximum crisp contact with the skillet.
- For an extra-crisp finish, pop the assembled sandwich into a hot oven for a few minutes. More handheld favorites await in our crispy breaded hot sandwiches and the tuna-packed tuna pasta salad with avocado and ricotta.
