Ingredients
- 240 ml (1 cup) warm water
- 240 ml (1 cup) warm milk
- 10 g (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1.5 tsp sugar
- 120 ml (1/2 cup) vegetable oil
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 750 g (6 cups) all-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk for brushing
- For the filling: 400 g (14 oz) ground meat
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp chopped green onions
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water and milk. Stir in the yeast, sugar, and vegetable oil.
- Add the flour and salt and knead into a soft dough. Grease the bowl, return the dough, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Mix the ground meat with the onion, green onions, salt, and pepper.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces. Flatten each into a round, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and pinch the edges closed to form buns.
- Arrange the buns close together in a round baking dish, cover, and proof for 15 minutes.
- Brush with egg yolk and bake at 180°C (355°F) for 30-35 minutes, until deep golden.
Tips
- Make sure the water and milk are warm, not hot — overheated liquid can kill the yeast and the dough will not rise.
- Pinch the bun edges firmly so the filling stays sealed while baking.
- Serve warm with a simple salad or pickles; leftovers reheat well in the oven.
