Juicy, herby and oven-baked until golden, these homemade lula kebabs bring all the smoky, grill-style flavor indoors — no open flame needed. Ground meat, sweet peppers, garlic and fresh herbs come together in minutes, then bake into tender, flavorful strips that are perfect with flatbread, rice or a simple salad. Ingredients
- 600-700 g (1.3-1.5 lb) ground meat
- 2 sweet peppers (or hot, if you dare)
- Fresh herbs (e.g. cilantro)
- 2 garlic cloves
- Salt, pepper, and favorite spices
- 100 ml (1/3 cup) water
Instructions
- Mince the peppers, garlic, and herbs (a blender works). Combine with the meat, spices, and water.
- Beat the mince a little for better texture, then shape into lula kebabs — long or patty-style.
- For a fun presentation, thread onto wooden skewers. For even strips, use sushi sticks as a mold. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 30-35 minutes.
Tips
- Shape the kebabs with wet hands so the mince does not stick, and chill it briefly if it feels too soft to hold its shape.
- Do not overbake — take the kebabs out as soon as they are cooked through and lightly golden, then rest them for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve with flatbread, pickled onions and a fresh salad; for more ground-meat ideas, see Allrecipes.
