Simple Classic Tiramisu

Recipe infographic: Simple Classic Tiramisu — ingredients and step-by-step visual guide

This simple classic tiramisu is all clouds and cream: coffee-soaked ladyfingers layered with a silky mascarpone cream and finished with a dusting of cocoa. No baking, no fuss — just a little patience while it chills into the perfect slice. It is the kind of dessert that looks elegant and tastes even better the next day.

Classic tiramisu slice with cocoa dusting and coffee-soaked layers

Ingredients

  • 250 g (9 oz) mascarpone
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 200 g (7 oz) ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • 300 ml (1 1/4 cups) heavy cream (30-33%)
  • 2 tsp instant coffee
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Beat the mascarpone, cream and powdered sugar on low until thick and fluffy.
  2. Dissolve the coffee in hot water; let cool.
  3. Dip the ladyfingers in coffee and layer them soaked-side up in a dish.
  4. Spread with cream and level.
  5. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers.
  6. Finish with cream — the last layer.
  7. Chill several hours, ideally overnight.
  8. Slice, plate, dust with cocoa and serve.

Tips

  • Dip, do not soak, the ladyfingers — a quick dip keeps them soft without falling apart.
  • Chill overnight if you can; the flavors deepen and the slices cut much more cleanly.
