Ingredients
- 500 g (1.1 lb) ground meat (any kind)
- 200 g (7 oz) onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- Salt, pepper, paprika and garlic to taste
- 3 tbsp sour cream
- 2 tbsp tomato paste or chili sauce
- 250 ml (1 cup) water
- 3-4 thin lavash sheets
- 300-400 g (10.5-14 oz) cheese, grated
Instructions
- For the filling, combine the ground meat with the onion, herbs, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper and egg. Mix well.
- Cut the lavash into strips, spread the meat mixture over each strip and roll into tubes. Arrange the rolls snugly in a baking dish.
- For the sauce, whisk the sour cream, chili sauce and water together and pour over the lavash rolls.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then scatter the grated cheese over the top and bake for 5 more minutes until melted and bubbly.
Tips
- Arrange the rolls snugly in the dish so they soak up the sauce without falling apart.
- Add the cheese only for the last 5 minutes so it turns golden and bubbly without overbaking.
- usda.gov has handy guidelines on safe cooking temperatures for ground meat.
