Ingredients

  • 200 g (7 oz) cottage cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 5–7 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Your favorite spices to taste
  • Cheese (as much as you like)
  • 100–150 g (3.5–5 oz) ham, diced
  • 1 beaten egg for brushing
  • Sesame seeds for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Add the eggs to the cottage cheese and mix well.
  2. Stir in the diced ham and grated cheese.
  3. Gradually add the flour and baking powder. The dough should be pliable and slightly sticky.
  4. Roll the dough into long ropes and braid them together.
  5. Brush the braids with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  6. Bake at 180 C (350 F) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with your favorite sauce.

Tips

  • Do not overwork the dough — it is meant to be slightly sticky, which keeps the sticks soft and tender.
  • Trim the dough ropes to an even thickness so the braids bake uniformly.
  • Add your favorite dried spices directly to the dough so every bite is flavorful.
