Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside — these Crispy Fish Patties are the kind of simple weeknight dinner everyone asks for again. Minced white fish, soft milk-soaked bread, and a golden breadcrumb crust make them irresistible. Ingredients
- 500 g white fish fillet, minced
- 5 slices white bread
- 150 ml milk
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak the bread in the milk for 5 minutes, then squeeze it dry. Finely dice the onion and sauté until soft.
- Mix the minced fish with the bread, onion, egg, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Shape into patties and coat each one in breadcrumbs.
- Fry in hot oil until golden and crisp, about 5 minutes per side. Serve hot.
Tips
- Squeeze the soaked bread really dry — excess milk will make the mixture loose and the patties hard to shape.
- Keep the oil hot but not smoking (about 175°C/350°F); if the oil is too cool, the patties absorb grease instead of crisping.
- Not sure your fish is done? The USDA’s food-safety guidance at usda.gov covers safe internal temperatures for fish and seafood.
