Baked fish fillets with creamy yogurt garlic sauce and lemon

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) fish (steaks or fillets)
  • 50 ml (3 tbsp) vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried garlic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 lemon, sliced

For the garlic sauce

  • 200 g (7 oz) yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp dried mint
  • Lettuce leaves for serving

Instructions

  1. Make the marinade: mix the oil, soy sauce, paprika, pepper, dried garlic, and salt. Rub over the salted fish and marinate 30 minutes. Bake at 180C (350F) for 20-25 minutes.
  2. For the garlic sauce: finely chop the lettuce leaves and mix with the yogurt, garlic, salt, and mint.
  3. Serve the fish with lemon and the garlic sauce.

Tips

  • Give the fish the full 30 minutes of marinating time — it makes a real difference in flavor. See seafood dinner inspiration at Allrecipes.
  • Check doneness with a fork: the flesh should be opaque and flake easily. More fish-cooking technique at Serious Eats.
  • Make the garlic sauce ahead and chill it — it gets even better as the flavors meld.
