Sausage and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

Recipe infographic: Sausage and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels — ingredients and step-by-step visual guide

Buttery puff pastry, savory sausage, and melty cheese swirled into golden pinwheels — these are the ultimate crowd-pleasing finger food. Much like our Shrimp Tortilla Cup Appetizers, they’re bite-sized, easy to share, and disappear fast at any gathering. Serve them warm with your favorite dip for a snack everyone loves.

Ingredients

  • 500 g (1.1 lb) puff pastry, thawed
  • 200 g (7 oz) ham or cooked sausage, grated or finely chopped
  • 150 g (5.3 oz) hard cheese, grated
  • 3 tbsp fresh herbs (parsley or dill), chopped
  • 1 egg yolk, beaten

Instructions

  1. Roll the puff pastry into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Spread the sausage evenly over the pastry, then scatter the grated cheese and fresh herbs on top.
  3. Roll the pastry up tightly into a log, then slice into pinwheels about 2 cm thick.
  4. Lay the pinwheels flat on a lined baking sheet, press gently, and brush the tops with beaten egg yolk.
  5. Bake at 185°C (365°F) for about 30 minutes, until puffed and golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Tips

  • Chill the rolled log for 15 minutes before slicing for cleaner pinwheels. The food-safety basics at USDA are worth a refresher when working with meat fillings.
  • Don’t overfill — a thin, even layer rolls up neatly and bakes through. Slice with a sharp serrated knife for best results.
  • Try them alongside our Quick Lavash Wrap with Meat and Cheese for a complete snack spread.
