Ingredients
- 360 g (1 1/2 cups) 2% Greek yogurt
- 300 g (2 1/2 cups) wheat flour
- 200 g (7 oz) turkey ham
- 90 g (3.2 oz) light cheese
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Salt and spices to taste
Instructions
- For the dough, mix the Greek yogurt, baking soda, salt, and flour.
- Fold half of the ham into the dough.
- With wet hands, shape 6 buns (the dough will be a bit sticky!).
- Top with the remaining ham and cheese, and add garlic and herbs.
- Bake at 190 C (375 F) for about 20-25 minutes.
Tips
- Keep a bowl of water nearby — wet hands make shaping the sticky dough much easier. Allrecipes has handy guides for working with soft, tacky doughs.
- Don’t skip the baking soda: it reacts with the yogurt’s acidity to give the buns their lift, so make sure yours is fresh.
- These buns keep well for 2-3 days — reheat in the oven for 5 minutes to bring back the melty cheese. If ham-and-cheese bakes are your thing, you’ll love our Zucchini Omelet with Ham and Cheese too.
