Golden cheese and onion puff pastry bites served on a plate

Ingredients

  • 250 g (9 oz) yeast-free puff pastry
  • 1 onion
  • 70 g (2.5 oz) cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Grate the cheese and finely chop the onion; combine. Beat the egg with salt; pour half into the cheese-onion mix and reserve half for brushing.
  2. Roll the pastry sheet thin, spread the filling, and roll into a log.
  3. Freeze 20 minutes so it is easier to slice.
  4. Slice, brush with the remaining egg, and bake at 180C (350F) until golden.

Tips

  • Chill the rolled log well so the slices keep their neat spiral shape.
  • Brush the tops evenly with egg for a deep, golden finish.
