These cheese and onion puff pastry bites are golden, flaky and irresistibly savory: melted cheese and sweet onion rolled into crisp spirals that disappear fast. They are perfect as a quick breakfast bite or a party snack, with almost no fuss. If you love flaky, cheesy baking, try our Cherry Mascarpone Buns and Cottage Cheese Galette with Apricots.

Ingredients
- 250 g (9 oz) yeast-free puff pastry
- 1 onion
- 70 g (2.5 oz) cheese
- 1 egg
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Grate the cheese and finely chop the onion; combine. Beat the egg with salt; pour half into the cheese-onion mix and reserve half for brushing.
- Roll the pastry sheet thin, spread the filling, and roll into a log.
- Freeze 20 minutes so it is easier to slice.
- Slice, brush with the remaining egg, and bake at 180C (350F) until golden.
Tips
- Chill the rolled log well so the slices keep their neat spiral shape.
- Brush the tops evenly with egg for a deep, golden finish.
