These pillowy sweet buns taste like a warm hug from childhood. Enriched with butter, milk, and a whisper of vanilla, they bake up golden and impossibly soft — perfect torn apart while still warm from the oven. If you love nostalgic baking, our Honey Cookies with Cinnamon and Ginger are another cozy favorite.

Ingredients
- 300 ml (1 1/4 cups) warm milk
- 100 g (7 tbsp) butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 7 g (2 1/4 tsp) dry yeast
- 1 packet vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
- 1 tsp salt (not heaped)
- 450 g + 50 g (about 4 cups) all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Stir the salt, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and yeast into the warm milk. Let stand in a warm place for 15 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg with the melted butter, remaining sugar, and vanilla. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir.
- Sift in the flour and knead into a soft, slightly sticky dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1.5 hours.
- Roll the dough into a large circle and cut into triangles (like croissants). Add sugar or your favorite filling, roll up each triangle, and let rise for 25 minutes.
- Brush with beaten egg yolk and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25-30 minutes until golden.
Tips
Make sure the milk is warm, not hot — too much heat will kill the yeast and the dough will not rise. For extra-soft buns, brush them with a little melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.
